For many artists, myself included, Mount Saint Victoire in Aix en Provence means Cezanne. If you have ever seen his landscape paintings done in Aix you have probably seen it. He shows it many colored, but usually not white. I had just finished a summer giving numerous guided tours of the large Cezanne Exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. I painted this on location behind the asylum, Saint Paul de Masole, in Saint Remy. The mistral wind was blowing so steadily that I had to use two smaller canvases so it all would not be blown away. Just beyond the trees in the background is a very steep drop. This looks out onto the excavated ancient city of Glanum.
